Art Walk at Glen Echo Park
Friday, June 5th at 6 PM
RSVP by June 3rd
On the first Friday of the month, from May through August, the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture host open studios and artist demonstrations in the Park’s many visual arts studios and galleries. Each month features different activities and artist demonstrations.
For those of you who are not familiar with the history of Glen Echo Park, it was first developed in 1891 as a National Chautauqua Assembly, which taught the sciences, arts, languages, and literature. The Chautauqua lasted for just one season, and by the early 1900’s, the site had become Glen Echo Amusement Park. The amusement park closed in 1968, and the federal government obtained the land in 1971. The National Park Service managed the park and collaborated with artists and art organizations to create a rich arts program in the spirit of the original Chautauqua movement. In 2002, Montgomery County took over management from the National Park Service and formed the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture, which has been overseeing the park ever since.
