Step behind the scenes of one of the Renwick Gallery’s most ambitious exhibitions with an exclusive docent-led tour of State Fairs: Growing American Craft—limited to just 15 participants.
This richly layered exhibition brings together more than 240 extraordinary works spanning over 150 years, revealing how artists, makers, and communities have shaped the beloved tradition of American state fairs. Guided by a knowledgeable docent, you’ll discover personal stories woven through art exhibits, heritage villages, dairy barns, parades, and rodeos, while encountering unforgettable sights such as Big Tex’s iconic 96-size boots, a life-size butter cow sculpted on site, and a dazzling pyramid of preserved fruits and vegetables. Representing artists and 4-H clubs from across the nation, the exhibition challenges stereotypes and celebrates the social and cultural power of fairgrounds—making this intimate tour a rare and rewarding experience not to be missed.
